Things that are not normal:

• worrying weather your parent will be willing to give you necessary money for food/school/transport/medicine/necessities
• having to tiptoe around your parents emotion not to upset them
• knowing one wrong word could cost you losing something important to you, or being exposed to threats and hatred
• parent acting like a child and locking themselves up, throwing a tantrum, demanding you take care of their emotions, crying and throwing guilt at you when they’re upset
• parent getting upset at you having your own thoughts and emotions, parent accusing you of hurting them if you continue to feel the way you feel
• parent changing their moods abruptly and inconsistently, never knowing how to approach them because they might be sweet but they might just snap and hurt you
• always expecting to be hurt, no matter what you do
• fretting the moment your parent comes home, reacting to any approaching noise with panic and feeling the urge to hide or quickly stop whatever you’re doing and be alert to their mood
• having to comfort your parent and make it all okay for them even though they don’t do this for you
• parent accusing you of being difficult and snapping at you when you’re struggling and dare to talk to them about it
• parent acting like you’re expecting the impossible if you ask for help and understanding
• not feeling safe coming to your parents with any problem or fear you have because they’re likely to dismiss you, humiliate you, say they already have enough problems without you, or tell you that you’re stupid and it’s your own fault
• parents being so self-involved with their own emotions they expect you to only feel and do what is convenient for them, and never stop and consider what you are going thru
• reading this list and already thinking of all the excuses for your parents doing this because you feel so guilty when you try to accuse them of anything and feel so much compassion for them and their situation it really feels unfair and cruel to hold them responsible for this, even though they’re absolutely, inevitably, going to continue hurting you like this, but you don’t feel important enough for them to stop acting this way and be parents to you
