What is amazing about the writing of Anne going off here is that she touches on all three things that upset her (and the audience) from the fair.

First she says, “Is it it more important to talk about who had the biggest cabbage…” this references that the biggest vegetable winner was that guy Jack’s cabbage and not Matthew’s raddish. While Matthew and Anne seem to come to terms with his radish winning Most Unusual after a few minutes it was still a big disappointment at first.

Next she says “discuss issues which concern an entire gender” Here she is referring to the mistreatment of Josie Pye and how no one seems willing to defend her or condemn Billy because of societal standards. This is the issue she is most obviously upset about.

Then we get the final bit “ Need to catch a train to Charlottetown” Anne probably doesn’t want to admit it but she is still heartbroken after going through that rollercoaster of emotions at the fair where one minute she thinks Gilbert is her destiny and the next minute she sees him with Winnie. This results in her accusingly asking Gilbert if he would rather be in Charlottetown with Winnie right now, than helping with the newspaper.

As a viewer these were also the three things that left me feeling upset after watching the fair, so it was kind of nice to see Anne voice all that frustration about what went wrong.
